Married couples online due to the Volcano

April 18, 2010

This is a very somewhat funny incident that happened to two Australians whom were supposed to be in their way to UK to attend their wedding reception there, but got trapped in Dubai since Thursday due to the closure of the European aerospace because of the Iceland volcano ash. They, with the help of the Hotel they were staying at, decided to attend the reception online! It’s just amazing how this volcano affected people’s life in many different ways. I personally know a friend of mine who got stuck in Europe during his long awaited two weeks relaxing holiday with his wife, and another story of a relative also stuck in London while she is preparing for her wedding here in Kuwait next week. I’m sure there are many other stories which some of them might be funny, yet others are possibly horrible!

Amazing holiday distenation

Center Parc.jpg

A friend of mine suggested that I check this website of a place in UK called Center Parcs to spend part of the summer vacation in it. The pictures below are from the one in Sherwood, mid of England and it’s around 3 hours drive from central London, but they do have other places closer to it (they have 3 more ones). I hate staying at London during summer, and never thought of going there no matter how fun it is for reasons probably many people know, yet I find this place an ideal one to visit in summer. Basically you book your accommodation there as they have different type of villas ranging from 1 to 4 bedrooms, and the activities there are just amazing for both the adults as well as the kids. This place is car-free zone, so all cars are suppose to be parked Read the rest of this entry »

Lebara mobile lines in London

March 20, 2010

simlibara-payg-mm8.jpg

In my last 5 days visit to London, I’ve been recommended to use this local mobile line from a company called Lebara. The charges are extremely unbelievable, and it gives you more freedom to use the mobile in calling internationally at very much cheap rates. The SIM card itself is free of charge to start with, and if you top-up with 20 pounds, you get 10 extra. So, I’ve been making a lot of calls to Kuwait, with that, I ended up reaching Kuwait with around 7 or 8 pounds remaining in balance, so imagine how much you will have to talk in order to spend the entire 30 pounds. On top, and to make it even more attractive, the local calls in UK from Lebara-to-Lebara lines are totally free of charge!

No more passports in Kuwait!

March 13, 2010

Well not literally, but starting from the beginning 2011, we can simply leave and enter the country without the need to present our passports to the immigration officer but through using fingerprinting mechanics (e-Gate) although we still need to carry them to use them at other countries’ immigration. This has been announced yesterday by the Ministry of Interior after signing the contract with the contractor. This is nice in fact which Dubai have taken few years back, but nevertheless, as far as Kuwait is concerned, it’s considered as big move. I’m only concerned with the security aspects of this issue, whether or not some professional criminals would be able to fake their fingerprints in away or another, that’s another question.

God protect Kuwait.
