Would there be any more traffic jam?

This only shows the positive effect of using the public transportation means (e.g. Buses, undergrounds, trains, etc.) than everyone’s own vehicle to off load the roads from the daily crowd. The indirect benefit on the other hand lies in something like the following points:

  • Roads will require less amount of maintenance since they are being used less, thus, more public money savings.
  • Lesser number of vehicles will be used, thus, amount of pollution will reduce.
  • People will greatly save many direct and indirect costs on their own personal vehicles.
  • People will be committing to their offices working hours more since they will be reaching there with no delay in their daily commute.
  • Public transportation is considered – in the general sense – safer than cars, thus, less amount of accidents is expected.
  • People’s mood will be more positive since they will fight considerably less with other drivers.

I’m sure there are many other valid reasons why to use the public transportations; whether this can be used heavily here in Kuwait or not, this is the question.

The latest news from Zain

It seems that Zain have upgraded their MMS system to cater for an attachment (picture or video) of  1MB rather than the normal 300Kb size. I think this is a great move albeit being little late kind of.

How long the volcano’s eruption will last?

April 17, 2010
ICELAND VOLCANO

When you read such articles, you truly feel it’s like the world is coming to its promised end with all other natural disasters like the last Earthquake in Chile and other Tsunamis, etc. This is an article below from one site indicating how long the same volcano lasted last time it erupted.

[The last time Iceland’s Eyjafjallajokull volcano blew, the eruption lasted more than a year, from December 1821 until January 1823, reports Sally Sennert, a geologist at the Smithsonian Institution.

“This seems similar to what’s happening now,” she says.

The volcano is erupting small, jagged pieces of rocks, minerals and volcanic glass the size of sand and silt into the atmosphere, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. This volcanic ash can even be as small as 1/25,000th of an inch across.

Volcanic ash is formed during explosive volcanic eruptions. Once in the air, the wind can blow these tiny ash particles tens to thousands of miles away from the volcano. Life-threatening and costly damages can occur to aircraft that fly through an eruption cloud, reports the geological survey.

“Silica in the ash gets into the engine and heats up and melts, which causes the engines to stop,” says Sennert.]

For how long you can save your food?

April 3, 2010

How long can a bottle of ketchup stay in your fridge before it goes bad? I’m thinking 1-2 years, but if you want an expert opinion, check a website called StillTasty. This site lists all kind of foods and how to keep them fresh longer as well as when to get rid of them. If you have a question click on the particular picture, and a whole list of stuff appears.

Airlines ranking by Skytrax

April 2, 2010

greenbevel.gif

Skytrax is a British, yet, global research advisor to the airlines industry that undertake products and services competitive performance evaluation of airlines and airports. Their mission statement says “without fear or favor” indicating their seriousness of the neutrality and objectivity in their process. On their website, they list all the evaluated airlines based on hotel-like star ranking system. The five stars airlines rank include: Asiana airlines, Cathy pacific, Kingfisher airlines, Malaysia airlines, Qatar airways, Singapore airlines. To surprise everyone, all other well-known airlines like British airways, air France, Lufthansa, KLM, Emirates, etc. came at 4 stars rank or even below. I was totally surprised though that Kuwait airways came at 3-stars rank, not that they were supposed to be better, but they were so overrated I guess!

Lebara mobile lines in London

March 20, 2010

simlibara-payg-mm8.jpg

In my last 5 days visit to London, I’ve been recommended to use this local mobile line from a company called Lebara. The charges are extremely unbelievable, and it gives you more freedom to use the mobile in calling internationally at very much cheap rates. The SIM card itself is free of charge to start with, and if you top-up with 20 pounds, you get 10 extra. So, I’ve been making a lot of calls to Kuwait, with that, I ended up reaching Kuwait with around 7 or 8 pounds remaining in balance, so imagine how much you will have to talk in order to spend the entire 30 pounds. On top, and to make it even more attractive, the local calls in UK from Lebara-to-Lebara lines are totally free of charge!

Would that be the case in the near future? Books publishers would be in real danger if yes!

I’ve received an email with many pictures on a place called Kuwait Oasis that belongs to KOC in Burgan oil field. I’m not quite sure though whether it’s meant to be a club, resting area, or simply another compound for their offices, but it’s actually a very nice place to spend sometime at.

Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo

March 11, 2010

This sentence above is grammatically correct. The word ”buffalo” in the sentence has three meanings: the animal, the city in New York and the act of ”buffaloing” which is another word for teasing or bullying. Here is another way of looking at the sentence: THE buffalo FROM Buffalo WHO ARE buffaloed BY buffalo FROM Buffalo ALSO buffalo THE buffalo FROM Buffalo.”

A 5 years waiting list for a handbag?

March 10, 2010
Wikiblack.jpg

That’s a 2008 story but seems to be somehow true! Only if you (talking to ladies in this case of course!) are planning to purchase a carefully hand-made Crocodile Birkin Hermes bag. The waiting list for this could reach up to 5 years, but normally between 1-2 years (as if this is normal !!). Do we have to mention the price in this case? Well, simply it’s in the tens of thousands dollars range anyways, and what makes it even more expensive is the sense of scarcity those guys are making around it so to be perceived as unique. This video [here] shows how it is made. Whether Hermes still producing this or not, that’s another question.

The whole story can not obviously go without mentioning that those people make huge amount of money out of poorly dead animals !!
